Preview of 2013.

Another year has past for movies(since we survived 2012),and we have a new year to look forward to.I am going to talk about the some of the movies i am looking forward to the most

Gangster Squad

This was suppose to come out last year, but was pushed back for reshoots after the shooting in Aurora, Colorado.A similar scene takes place in a movie theatre. The date for this film is now January 11th.Josh Brolin,Ryan Gosling,Emma Stone and Sean Penn star in this movie about six police officers and detectives breaking the law and eleminating Mickey Cohen,s(Penn) gang.Gosling and Brolin play police also.I always like movies that take place in this period, the period of gangsters.Ruben Fleischer also directed Zombieland and 30 Minutes or Less, both of which i enjoyed.I am lookin forward to this crime film. http://www.hdwallpapers.in/walls/gangster_squad-wide.jpg

Man of Steel

Put Christopher Nolan's name on anything and i'll watch it.I have never been a Superman fan inparticularly, but just having the director of the Dark Knight Trilogy is producing is enough.Henry Caville is the first British actor to play Superman.Zack Snyder has made some good movies like Watchmen,300 and the Dawn of the Dead remake,so i trust him, even after that horrible movie Sucker Punch. This Superman movie seems less cartooney than the other ones,no one yelling "it's a bird! It's a plane!",and a more serious movie is drawing me to it the most. This can also continue to set up the world for a future Justice League movie.

Evil Dead

I'm still curious about this one.I have to put my skeptical face on when you remake a classic, especially of a classic horror movie.Every trailer that has been put out for it has a very dark tone to it and looks much more bloody than the original.I'm not happy that Bruce Campbell will not be in it,that's depressing me a lot.But hopefully it's good.Like I just read a review for Texas Chainsaw 3D and it got the review I figured it would.Keeping low expectations for this, but as usual I would love to be surprised by this.Good or even great horror movies are so rare now.Good remakes are even more rare. But,we'll see what happens,I'm gonna see it regardless.

MOVIE 43:Movie 43 is a upcoming comedy that has 11 directors and many actors. The movie has 12 different story lines, so it sounds like this is like a sketch comedy in the sense that Kentucky Fried Movie was years ago.It sounds interesting to me.It looks hilarious too,so I'm excited for this one.

SCARY MOVIE 5 :........haha,just kidding,I really don't care at all about this movie.

IRON MAN 3:After The Avengers,I'll see anything Marvel and Disney will put out.Robert Downey Jr returning as the superhero Iron Man,also known as Tony Stark. Gwyneth Paltrow will also return as his love interest Pepper Pots.Newcomers to this series have Guy Pearce and Ben Kingsley as the villains.A different newcomer is Shane Black, who is stepping up to direct instead of John Favreau, who did the previous two.The first was great, second was so so,but growing up with these heroes makes me wanna see any superhero movie,so I can't wait for this one.

Those are the main movies I am looking forward to,along with a few others I blogged about in the past like Star Trek Into Darkness,World War Z,and Kick Ass 2.I also want to see Thor The Dark World and The Wolverine(like I said,superheroes).2013 is going to be a exciting year for movies and I can't wait for all these blockbusters to arrive.

Trailer Reaction:Star Trek Into Darkness

I have never been a Star Trek person.Star Wars was my series. But in 2009 Star Trek was updated in a reboot directed by J.J Abrams.I'm sure most people were skeptical seeing as how it takes place when the Enterprise crew is first formed....that would mean no Shatner, which would make anyone nervous. But once it came out,I thought it was one of the best movies of 2009.I'm sure many others did too,I was blown away by how good it was.I watched it again recently and was very excited for a sequel.Luckily a few days later a teaser came out for it's sequel,Star Trek Into Darkness. There is also a trailer out by now too.
http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20121203170032/memoryalpha/en/images/f/f0/Star_Trek_into_Darkness_poster.jpg

Luckily all the primary cast members are returning,Chris Pine as Kirk,Zachary Quinto as Spock, Zoƫ Saldana as Uhura,John Cho as Sulu,Anton Yelchin as Checkov,Karl Urban as Bones, and Simon Pegg as Scotty. Bruce Greenwood is also returning as Christopher Pike. The villain this time around is a character named John Harrison, played by English actor Benedict Cumberbatch. There was speculation that he was playing a character from the original series named Gary Mitchell, but this has since been denied, and it has been denied for a while that he is playing Khan from Star Trek 2(many people seem to think this because this is the second film).

Harrison looks like he may also be a member of Starfleet, there are parts in the trailer where he is wearing a shirt with the Starfleet emblem on it.Kirk and Harrison seem to recognize each other,so I bet Cumberbatch's character is holding a grudge over something.
http://img2-3.timeinc.net/ew/i/2012/12/06/Star-Trek-Into-Darkness_510x317.jpg

The trailer had a really dark tone to it,which I thought was interesting.I feel like there will be the death of a main character. There is a shot at the end of the trailer when someone is putting their hand up to someone else's,but they are separated by glass. If I had to take a guess,I feel that Spock will be the one to die if anyone. He did in the original second one,but I seriously doubt Abrams will take that directly from the original second movie for his interpretation.

At first there were talks for Benecio Del Toro to be the villian and even talked with Abrams about the role, but he eventually backed out.

I hope Cumberbatch's character can be sympathetic.Sympathetic villians are always the best ones, because you can see why they are like they are.Like in the 2009 film,Eric Bana's character Nero lost his wife and his whole home planet! So you did kind of feel bad for him and understood why he wanted revenge.

I am very happy that the primary cast is returning, because they all are very good actors in their parts, especially Chris Pine(Kirk) and Zachary Quinto(Spock).I've seen some of the original tv show, and all the actors did very well at fitting the characters from the original series, they all feel like the characters at a younger age.

Also some people will probably geek out because there are Klingons    http://theawesomer.com/photos/2012/12/star_trek_into_darkness_teaser_2_t.jpg

http://latino-review.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/Star-Trek-Into-Darkness-Screenshot-Spock-Phaser.jpg               As of right now, this is my most anticipated movie of 2013.It will be hard to see if this is as good as the original, because it's hard to with sequels. But Star Trek has so many possibilities in it's universe, that there are so many ideas that can be incorporated into the next film.I hope Star Trek Into Darkness lives up to my anticipation, and the anticipation of many others.

Movie Review:Skyfall

James Bond is back. This film's relese date is to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the James Bond series, beginning with Dr.No in 1962.The James Bond character is in his 23 film, titled Skyfall.Daniel Craig is playing the MI6 agent for the third time, first was in a sort of reboot in 2006's Casino Royale, and it's direct sequel,2008's Quantum of Solace.I was blown away by Casino Royale,i was so impressed with how good it was.Quantum of Solace,I had mixed feelings about, and it partly could be because I had high expectations from the first movie. Now we have Skyfall.....

The film starts with MI6 agent Bond and another agent,Eve(Naomie Harris) chasing a mercenary named Patrice(Ola Rapace),who has stolen a highly valuable computer hard drive that contains the names of every agent undercover in terrorist organizations.During a fight with between Bond and Patrice on a train,Eve from a distance is ordered by the head of MI6,M(Judi Dench) to take the shot at Patrice.Eve accidently shoots Bond, and he falls into a river assumed dead while Patrice escapes.

Bond has "retired" using his supposed death to disappear, but when cyberattacks against MI6 and it's agents begin,Bond knows he has to come out of retirement and find the cyberterrorist who is doing this, who is actually a former MI6 agent himself who wants revenge on M for betraying him.

Javier Bardem plays Raoul Silva,a highly skilled(and very fabulous) cyber terrorist, who was a former MI6 agent.Other cast members include Ralph Fiennes playing Garreth Mallory,Chairmen of the Intelligence and Security Agency.Ben Whishaw plays Q,a characer that has actually been in 20 of the 23 Bond movies, played by various actors. The Q stands for quartermaster.

This movie is around two and a half hours, but i didn't feel it at all.The action is incredible, and the best parts of the movie is seeing Bond and Silva interacting, because they basically were the same person at one point. Also the relationship between Bond and M continues to be very well written and acted, much like it was in the last two films.

The intro titles are also very well done, with the song "Skyfall" being preformed by Adele

I do have a few complaints though. My main one is being the so called "Bond Girls".He gets a different girl in every movie and she is never seen again once it ends. The characters of Eve and Severine are not as interesting as past girls and they do not have the chemistry with Bond like Eva Greene's character Vesper Lynn had in Casino Royale, that was a relationship you could believe.Severine isn't in it all that much, and Eve...it's weird considering she is the one who accidently shot Bond in the beginning anyway, and while it probably doesn't make him hold a grudge,i just found it odd.I wanted another Vesper.

But when you think about it,the real Bond Girl in this movie is Judi Dench's character M,because she doesn't see Bond as just another agent(even if she denies it),and she is almost like a mother to him.

Skyfall,in my opinion is just as good as Casino Royale,if not better. It makes me excited for what could be in the next Bond movie, and it also makes me want to go back and watch all the old ones that iv'e never seen. This is one of the best action movies iv'e seen in awhile, and honestly,if the world does end on the 21st, i'm perfectly fine with this being my last theatre experiance, because it was that enjoyable.

Movie Review:Wrath of the Titans

First they were clashin',now they wrathin'....

http://static.moviefanatic.com/images/gallery/wrath-of-the-titans-poster-2.jpg
This is one of those rare times when a sequel is better than the original......but i guess thats easy to do when the first movie was absolute garbage.Seriously, the bar could not be set any lower. This was a pleseant surprise.

This 2011 film is a sequel to the 2010 remake of Clash of the Titans, which as i said before, not good. The first movie was just boring and the effects were very mediocre.I never saw it in the theatre,or in 3D,but from what i heard, since it wasn't filmed in 3D and the 3D was added in post production,it looked awful.

Now we have Wrath of the Titans.Sam Worthington returns as the demigod Perseus, who is now living a quiet life with son after defeating the sea monster The Kracken in the first movie. But his father, the god Zeus, played by Liam Neeson comes down to him for help.He explains that now that humans are starting to lose faith in the Gods, and are starting to stop praying, they are now losing their powers. This also means everything they did will become undone, which includes imprisioning the Titans,so now they are breaking free, and will destroy the world. So it is up to Perseus and a few others to rescue Zeus and defeat the Titans. The God of the Underworld,Hades, played by Ralph Finnes, imprisions Zeus so that their father,Kronos, who is a Titan(he't that big lava monster on the poster above) can drain Zeus's powers so he can rise again.

This is not neccesarily a good movie. It is mainly a good movie on a technical basis. The effects are very impressive, especially Kronos, that was like the highpoint of the movie. The battle at the end was fun too.Much like the first movie, this does strip down Greek mythology and make it simple just involving action and monsters. http://collider.com/wp-content/uploads/wrath-of-the-titans-banner-poster-2.jpg

Some of the other cast members include Rosamund Pike playing Queen Andromeda(replacing actress Alexa Davalos from the first movie).Bill Nighy plays Hephaestus, who made weapons for the Gods.Edgar Ramirez plays Ares, the God of War who takes sides with Hades.Toby Kebbel(Rocknrolla) as Agenor,a thief who assists Perseus.Danny Houston as Poseidon,God of the Sea and father of Ares.

The best thing to talk about with this movie is the effects, hands down. The effects are what drive the movie to actually be fun.If they were bad, this could have been just as bad as the first movie.I found all the characters to not be that likeable at all,i just didn't care about them, and if i did,it's just because i like the actors(let's be honest,no one wants to see Liam Neeson die). This movie would be worth seeing in the theatre probably because of the effects.IMAX 3D sounds pretty awesome having fire thrown at you. Also there is a pretty cool scene involving a Labrynith.I was a little let down by the Minotaur when he finally comes in,he only has a small part.I thought the Chimera were cool, but Kronos and the Makhai were awesome i thought.

From what i hear,a thrid movie is being made.I don't really see a point to do one,but if it was as entertaining as this one, then yeah sure why not.Although it wouldn't kill them to have a little bit of a good story.

So if you want a visual fun fest,go get Wrath of the Titans. But if your hoping for a deep story, stay far away.

Movie Review:V/H/S

http://img2.timeinc.net/ew/i/2012/06/14/vhs-poster_510.jpg

V/H/S an anthology horror film that debuted at the Sundance Film Festivel back in January. An anothology horror film means that it is a series of different stories, similar to a film like George A Romero's Creepshow.

V/H/S consists of five stories, besides the main story arch. The main story arch, titled Tape 56 involves a group of criminals hired by a unknown person to break into a house and steal one videotape. When they get into the house, they find the owner dead in his chair. As the group splits to search the house, one of them presses "play" on the tv that the dead guy was watching, the tape shows the first story, and throughout the movie,he continurs to put more tapes into the VCR and procedes to watch them.We see the tapes also.

Segment one,Amateur Night, directed by David Bruckner, involves three friends who like to party and are trying to find girls to bring back to the hotel.(By the way, this is also a found footage movie, the kid has a camera on his glasses,so we are seeing what he does. All the stories are like this) After finding some girls, one of them is very odd,and unusual. She keeps telling the main character in a whisper "i like you".Not to spoil too much, but eventually, they find out she's not exactly...human.I thought this segment was awesome. The girl was actually scary and it was freaky when she started going crazy. The end was cool too.
http://www.thegridto.com/wp-content/uploads/VHS6212012.png

The second story,Second Honeymoon, directed by Ti West, involves a couple who are staying at a hotel. Before they get there, they use a fortune teller machine that gives her the fortune "you will be visited by a loved one".Later a girl(not shown on screen) asks if she can have a ride in the morning.I'll just leave it at that. There are points when while the couple is sleeping, the person breaks im and is using the camera to look around and does make you nervous. This is in my opinion the weakest of all the stories. http://horrorhomework.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/v-h-s2.jpg

Segment Three,Tuesday the 17th, directed by Glenn McQuaid, involves a group of friends who go out into the woods together. One of them,Wendy, seems to have a plan of her own. There is some kind of monster out in the woods. She is trying to personally catch him.He is in the shape of a normal man,but you cannot see him.On the camera, there are glitches where ever he is,so he is unseeable.I thought it was an interesting concept. But a little slow,it just had too much uninteresting build up.

Story four,The Sick Thing That Happened to Emily When She Was Younger, directed by Joe Swanburg. It has a Paranormal Activity feel to it.It involves a couple talking on Skype, and the girl thinks the house is haunted.I think this has a great twist near the end,but the story ends a couple minutes after that.Maybe the rest of the story was on another videotape. But it ends right when it started to become good.
http://torontoafterdark.com/2012/media/films/cache/vhs-img-2-425x258.jpg

The final story,10/31/98,directed by a group of filmmakers called Radio Silencd,is the best segment of the movie in my opinion. It has three teenagers going to a haunted house, and when they get there,no one is there, but they soon discover it's really a haunted house.I love how they find out too, like there is a group of people preforming some ritual on some tied up girl, and when the teens find them, they think it's a joke. The people are chanting,so the teens jokingly chant too,but once the people notice the three teens, they are not happy. Many other supernatural things happen too.I enjoyed it the most out of all the segments.
https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjF1effrvo8s_G00uNRS2XbOnHou1OoF9yPoS0KCl6CMVDHEAwSPrMNYJcDaMActAc3SjO4BR2Gx2QJG2pmntbutjBnAMMyWzzJhg_y1YDDSt4H_cLtqTaq_ay77jOAP8cvL3dopEV7bIA8/s1600/vhs8.png

Now that i've ranted about each story (wow this is a long blog),i will say my opinion on the movie:This is a movie that's probably best as a rental.I don't mean that in a bad way either,it's a good movie to rent, especially on Halloween and just watch at your house.I think the last segment is great. The Second Honeymoon segment is the weakest. It's the only one that doesn't have a supernatural angle in it.In the case of people watching these videos, the more supernatural the better. Also for me personally,i found all the characters extreamly annoying. There is one payoff of dealing with them though, and that is that most of them die.I had to deal with them, they deserved it.

I wish the final segment was longer, because it was so amusing.I think this would work better as a whole feature film. Overall, while a good movie, even clever at points,it is overall very slow in some parts, and it really does slow the pace of the movie down.

There was no real reason to have gone out and go see this in a theatre, but if you paid rental price for it,i don't think you would be disappointed.

Trailer Reaction:World War Z

FINALLY!!!The trailer for World Waz Z was finally released. This is based off the book by Max Brooks, the son of comedy legend Mel Brooks, who seems to be a zombie enthusiast. He also wrote The Zombie Survival Guide and Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Zombies.

The film stars Brad Pitt as Gerry Lane,a worker for the United Nations. As a zombie infection begins to take hold of the world,Lane must travel and find out information about what can stop it before it is too late.Much to my frustration, this movie was going to be released on December 21st,but sadly was pushed back until June.I'm glad a trailer finally came out, because other than the announcements of Brad Pitt starring and Marc Forster(Stranger Than Fiction,Quantum of Solace) directing, there hasn't been much word on the movie lately.

From what i hear, the book has a different set up.It shows different parts of the world and what they are doing and how they are reacting. The book is more like different accounts. It doesn't look like the movie is following the same beat, but it could,Brad Pitt's character works for the UN,so he probably travels around the world. So we'll probably see it from all around the world.

There is alot of zombies. No,i mean ALOT.They are literally running over each other at super speed. But that's fine with me,i love all kinds of zombie movies.I do like that it's showing how the virus starts. Most movies seem to focus on a small group of people, sometimes midway into the apocalypse. But this trailer shows many explosions, military fighting zombies, people fighting. It looks crazy and awesome.Crazy awesome.

I am definately looking forward to this. I'm glad there is finally an update on the movie, and no update is better than a trailer. It looks like an actual war, which i want to see.Special effects look good and hopefully this is a good zombie movie, because i'm there is mot as many good ones anymore.June 21st,2013 is the release date and i am very excited.

The Evil Dead Trailer Reaction

So the trailer for The Evil Dead came out. This is a remake of the 1981 horror classic. The original and it's two sequels star Bruce Campbell and are all directed by Sam Raimi. The original involved 5 college students going to a cabin in the woods, and an audio tape releases the Deadites. The second film,Evil Dead II,takes place the next day with Ash(Bruce Campbell remaining the only survivor, and the third,Army of Darkness, involves Ash going back into mideval times to fight the Deadites.I love all three movies, they are all great. But unfortunately, seeing as how remakes are the trend in hollywood nowadays, not even Evil Dead was safe from being remade.

The remake is sort of following the same formula as the original....but there's one problem....

THERE IS NO BRUCE CAMPBELL!!!!!!!!!

Bruce Campbell's character Ash Williams was so iconic, but now he's not going to be in it,which is very disappointing to me.Although he is producing it,so that's gotta count for something. But still,it's not going to be the same without him.

The trailer that came out was a Red Band Trailer,so it's alot more violent that usual trailers. That also seems like what they are concerned about, making it bloodier. That's not always a good thing. Some things in the trailer did look creepy, like that zombie looking girl cutting her tongue and side of face with a knife. They showed a glimpse of a girl being tied up by a alive tree(which,if you've seen the original, you'll remember that controversial scene and what happens next.

That's the problem with remakes, they just want to make things more bloody and gory. But,I consider remakes good if they can do something different from the original and actually surprise me.I don't want a beat for beat movie, because than I can just go and watch the old one instead.

I am looking forward to it,because I do love the original, but I'm scared about how it's going to turn out because I want this to be good.If it's not,I'll always have the original to go back to.But I would like to see a scary movie that's actually scary. There's not alot anymore. This movie comes out April 13,2013.We'll see what happens.
